Happy New Year

          2013

Happy new year to everyone

from all of us at Simply french weddings

Looking at what to wear this year we thought we would look back at wedding dresses from 1913 and see how our wedding dresses have been inspired!
This cream wool cashmere and silk and gold brocade dress with an over bodice of machine made lace, is beautiful. It's theatrical, artistic style was inspired by the French designer Paul Poiret .
The bride would have worn a large black velvet picture hat with wide brim and ostrich feather trim.

This particular dress, was worn by Anne Stringer Dawson when she married artist
James Ardent Grant on 31st December 1913.

Another elegant 1913 silk wedding dress

This wonderful, ivory silk wedding dress from the Titanic era, was known as a 'hobble skirt' dress ('hobble' was the term given to skirts or dresses whose bottom hem was so narrow that the only way a woman could walk in the dress would be short mincing steps- she was in effect 'hobbled')
